Knysna Municipality – Enterprise Architecture – South Africa

  • 2018-04-172018-05-07
  • by Charles

A short piece of work to Establish a baseline As-Is Enterprise Architecture for the Municipality, so that they firstly meet their Policy Framework requirements from Provincial and National Government to establish and operate an Enterprise Architecture by 2019.

Secondly to assist the CIO/IT Manager in understanding the Business more accurately, to offer a solid baselined Architecture. This then allows for a coherent To-Be well planned set of strategic IT Services to be defined and to publish a Roadmap taking the Municipality forward.

  • 2018-04-172018-05-07
  • by Charles

Mentored on the Enterprise Architecture Tools and Methods implementation as part of the OMSA Transformation Programme in collaboration with the Business and IT practice leads.

The goal was to facilitate a smooth landing for all Programme initiative deliveries and to leave the Old Mutual SA with an Enterprise Architecture Capability that integrates well with the existing business practices end to end.

Modelled all EA in i-Server across all Architectural Domains and mentored the Architects in how best to harness the power of this powerful Architectural Capability.

Plymouth Council – Customer Services Transformation – UK

  • 2018-04-172018-05-07
  • by Charles

As part of an overall 5 year EA strategic drive across the Council to reduce costs and innovate, I assisted on the Customer Services Transformation programme in developing the Roadmap, enhancing the Blueprint models, documenting strategic direction and capabilities offering various alternatives and recommendations. Because they so liked what had been done in terms of modelling, I was asked to instantiate their fledgling EA practice within the City Council, specifically in procuring and implementing and mentoring on an EA Modelling & Governance Tool that could assist all Business Architects across the Strategic programme, to form a core enterprise wide set of Architecture models and building up the EA practice and governance processes.

Visa (was Fundamo) – South Africa

Consulting to Fundamo Visa on the Business Architecture aspects of the Mobile Money Banking Software platform (through DVT). Working on Business Process Improvement and overall Enterprise Architecture. Initially started by using Iteraplan, Archi, Sharepoint, Visio with the Archimate notation. More recently began using the Troux toolset to model Strategy, Capabilities, Business Process, Business Services, etc.

Spent a year involved with the acquisition/merger doing Server and Application Migration from SA to the US where we had to move 1000+ servers with all their related software while people were working and without any disruption. I used this opportunity to begin building and refining an Enterprise Architecture model at multiple levels in multiple domains over various continuum levels.

Started by helping improve the quality of the R3 product by enhancing the build, test and release processes using Jenkins and enhancing Continuous Integration by adding Continuous Automated Functional regression testing and also streamlined the Project Management aspects of the daily processes by modifying the Jira processes.

Analytics and Risk Technology Project. Architected and worked on building a Financial Risk Analytic Platform to integrate data, tools and analytic financial risk models using a virtual client and server environment. This was to begin enforcing the new Intensive and Intrusive Financial regulation process and to manage Firms Financial portfolios and monitor all the various forms of Risk. Building blocks were wide and varied from simple open source to expensive COTS products. e.g. Subversion, Java code, JBoss App Server, Excel, JSPWiki, Apache, Oracle 10g, Eclipse, Perl, C++ with Analytic tools such as MatLab, SAS, Mathematica, Algorithmics. Also R language, Nigem, RATS/CATS, eViews, etc. Used TOAD, Sparx Enterprise Architect (UML and Archimate) with others to follow as the FSA evolve their ideas in an Agile and iterative manner. Used VMWare ESX 4.0 for Red Hat Linux as well as Windows Servers and clients.
