Architecture in computing is an often misunderstood concept; particularly since those who work in Information Systems and Technology Departments do not necessarily come from a software or systems architecting and engineering (specifically coding) background find it difficult to fully appreciate many of the subtleties of Architecture.

This paper shows how due to misunderstanding of the various architectural concepts it is easy to overlook a fundamentally important and strategic part of the Business as a whole; in particular Enterprise Architecture.

Renamed EA Black Hole to EA Vacuum Print E-mail
Written by Charles Edwards

The paper that was published last week, has been renamed and refactored, based upon comments and discussion from my peers this week.

It was felt, correctly too I believe, that the use of the term 'Black Hole' was setting EA for failure - Why? Because no matter how much funding and money you throw at a black hole you still get nothing back - in fact they are to be avoided at all costs!

So I decided to rename it a vacuum, because vacuum's in confined areas are finite and can be overcome. Other bits and pieces as well as clarifactions were added into the paper to make it read better.
