Changing the culture - Enterprise Architecture Systems Print E-mail
Written by Charles Edwards

Could you imagine running a medium to large financial department in a business using only spreadsheets instead of a proper Accounting system in this day and age? Hardly.  As a practicing Enterprise Architect it never ceases to amaze me at how everyone can see the need for an Accounting System within an Enterprise, no matter the size of the company, but by and large completely fail to recognise the need or benefits of an Enterprise Architecture System.

Is it because Accounting systems have become the norm and are embedded in the culture of the way we do business?   This paper compares the two items to see how far apart they really are, and help swing the culture of business towards “accounting” for the architecture of the enterprise as part of the norm.

Working on a comparison of Agile Dev to Agile EA Print E-mail
Written by Charles Edwards

Agile Enterprise Architecture makes use of many of the principles of the Agile movement; agility, feedback and collaboration that the Agile Software Development uses. However there are various concepts that AgileEA suggest, which when taken in the context of Agile Software Development might at first seem to contradict the concept of ‘Agile’. This leads to the possibility of people misunderstanding the AgileEA concepts and dismissing these concepts.

This paper once complete and published here, will seek to clarify the similarities and differences, with reasons justifying why these differences exist.

My Work Values paper Print E-mail

In reading up on a great book called "Lost in translation" by Nigel Green, et al. I discovered their concept of VPEC-T. The first letter stands for 'Values' and is often an overlooked concept in resolving conflicts between people on projects or at work generally, because people have various built in Values which their experience and interactions has shaped over time.

I took the concept and set out my own work values, which I have since given to people in the teams I work with and I'm interested to see if this has an impact in how we work going forward.

You can find this paper under Whitepapers in the People Planning section. Register or login to download it. Subscribe to RSS for future updates of this paper as it will probably change over time.

Getting Started with AgileEA - what's the first thing I do to understand this?

So you've come into this website and you are not quite sure what it's all about? What do you do to understand it quickly?

  • Click on the "Process" tab on the top right hand side. It will take you into the latest version of the EA Operational Process we are building.
    • Look around and read up on what the process is all about. Try it out.
  • After that you will decide one of three things:
    • I like AgileEA and I want to use it free at our Organisation. - Read up on how to download and install it. You could just use it as is.
    • I like it - but it needs change and I want to help grow it. Excellent. You can either tailor a download to suit your own company and way of working or you can work with us to change the base product. Register and join the site to begin contributing to the process.
    • This wasn't what I was expecting. Please leave feedback, comment on any article or give reasons if you feel it could use some changes or does not suffice. We can only improve if we get good feedback.
  • Then read some of the White papers, Articles and Blogs on the site. Even better - get involved and contribute.
